Does Re-intubation Increased Risk of Ventilator- Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Patients?

Introduction:ventilator- associated pneumonia(VAP),as defined by the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC),is a pneumonia that occurs in a patient receiving mechanical ventilation that develops 48 hours or more after initiation of ventilation.re-intubation which occur within 72 hours of planned extubation may effect VAP incidence.the aim of this study was to determine VAP incidence i...

Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus in Ventilator Associated ‎Pneumonia in Toxicological Intensive Care Unit

Background: Methicillin resistant Staphylococus Aureus (MRSA) is a cause of ‎nosocomial infections at intensive care unit (ICU), which imposes a high mortality and ‎morbidity on the health care systems.‎ The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of MRSA in patients with clinically ‎suspected ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) in toxicological ICU admitted ‎patients. Methods: This ...

Oral care intervention to reduce incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia in the neurologic intensive care unit.

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a preventable secondary consequence of intubation and mechanical ventilation. VAP is pneumonia that develops in an intubated patient after 48 hours or more of mechanical ventilator support. Mechanically ventilated patients in neurologic and other intensive care units (ICUs) are at an increased risk of VAP due to factors such as decreased level of conscio...

The prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia hospitalized in intensive care unit

Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a type of hospital acquired pneumonia with the mortality rate between 27% and 76% that develops more than 48–72 h after endotracheal intubation. Possible causes leading to this infection can be Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The objective of this study was to determine the presence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in bronchoalveolar samples of patients with ...

Strategies for the Prevention of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia in the Intensive Care Units: A Review

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) accounts for 80%-90% of hospital-acquired pneumonia cases in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). VAP occurs 48-72 hours after intubation, and is observed in 27%-29% of patients with endotracheal tube, and its risk increases with the increase in the duration of mechanical ventilation. In this review study, papers published from 1996-2018 were used to investigate st...

Application of ventilator care bundle and its impact on ventilator associated pneumonia incidence rate in the adult intensive care unit.

OBJECTIVE To reduce ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) incidence rate, lessen the cost of care, and correlate VAP bundles compliance with VAP incidence rate. METHODS This study was a prospective longitudinal study conducted on adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients at Hera General Hospital, Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from January to December 2010. The following Institute for Healthc...
